After completing the song cycle Die schöne Müllerin in January of 1824 Schubert set about recasting the 18th song—“Trockne Blumen”—into an introduction and set of seven variations for flute and piano. The work may have been composed for Ferdinand Bogner, a flutist and friend of the composer. Introduction in Ger-Eng. Hardbound. $102
