Vienna, 2004. 18 x 22 cm, 80 pp (w/ 86 color illus.). This beautifully illustrated catalog produced on the occasion of the exhibit “Arnold Schönbergs Schachzüge—Dodekaphonie und Spiele-Konsruktionen” (Arnold Schönberg Center and the Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien, 7 May, 13 September 2004), gives us a special insight into the world of Schoenberg as inventor, constructor and designer. The exhibit is comprised of attractive household items (telephone directory, tape dispenser), furniture (buffet, chair, music stand), compositional aids (12-tone wheels, slide rules & rolls, staffliner,
& design for an elaborate electric music typewriter), recreational items (game to learn music, dice, tiddlywinks, puzzle, symbols for recording tennis plays, playing cards, and "coalition chess", an extended form of tradition chess). Commentary by Christian Meyer and Ernst Strouhal. German and English texts. Wrappers. $25
