Faksimile-Edition Kremsmünster, 42, 43, 45,  Stuttgart, 2024-26. c.28 x 37, 760 pp. Full color reproduction of Codices L11, L12 & L14 copied by P. Benedikt Lechler (1594-1659), student at the Imperial College in Vienna 1607 to 1615. Repeating what Heinrich Schütz had done 20 years earlier—aided by a bursary or at least by leave of absence from his employers—Lechler traveled to Italy for the purpose of musical study and collecting music. The manuscripts are a compilation of Italian sacred (masses, canzone, motets) and instrumental music, numbering hundreds of pieces. It’s an astonishing testament to Lechler’s insatiable appetite for collecting and preserving the music of the early 17th-c. Italian masters, and bringing it back north over the Alps for use at Kremsmünster Abby in upper Austria, not to mention our great luck in having the ability to study this repository of music more than 400 years later. Hardbound with decorative paper boards.                                                                                                                                            $164 -  $173 -  $240
