Line-cut of the Venice, 1602 edition. Collection of 19 songs with Italian lute tablature, interestingly referred to as “Motetti, e Mad[rigali]” on the footer of each gathering. Published the same year as Caccini’s Le nuove musiche, these two collections—in the words of John Griffiths—are the meeting place of the old oral” tradition and the new declamatory style. Giancarli’s music has never been studied or performed since the early 17th c. Hardbound, with boards in decorative paper.  $40
